Imo an interesting counter is in terms of a reductio argument. Once we understand the action of brain cells we have to dig further down to understand the action of subcellular mechanisms, otherwise we don't really understand brain cells. But once we understand subcellular we need to understand how such molecular mechanisms come about, otherwise it's not real understanding. Therefore, all explanations must be at the "quantum foam" level, otherwise we don't have real understanding. But since this absurd, we have a contradiction.
